Luxury SUV Genesis GV90 revealed with pillarless doors

Genesis, the luxury sub-brand of Hyundai, has unveiled the GV90, its first full-size flagship SUV and the production version of the 2024 Neolun concept. The new electric SUV made its debut at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and is offered in two versions: the 4-seat GV90 Neolun with its Rolls-Royce-style doors and the standard GV90 with conventional swing doors.

Genesis Australia has confirmed the GV90 will arrive here in the first half of 2027. This large SUV can challenge established luxury SUVs like the Range Rover Autobiography EV, Mercedes-Benz EQS, BMW X7, and buyers can also skip elite models such as Mercedes-Maybach GLS, Bentley Bentayga, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan for the more affordable GV90.

Genesis GV90’s pricing for Australia

The ultra-luxury, all-electric flagship SUV is scheduled to land in local Australian showrooms in the first half of 2027, but there is no official confirmation on the local pricing yet. Its production begins in September 2026 in the home market, with initial domestic sales starting late this year.

Australia will get both GV90 variants: standard 7-seater and Neolun. A hyper-exclusive Neolun First Edition will also launch globally but is not confirmed to land Down Under.

GV90’s flagship EV performance

Genesis has fitted the GV90 with a 123.5kWh battery for both variants, which is the largest capacity used in a Hyundai Motor Group electric vehicle. The 7-seat GV90 has an estimated range of about 500km based on internal R&D testing with a 350kW fast DC charger that can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.

A Dual E-LSD (Electronic Limited-Slip Differential) system distributes power between the four wheels in an all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

The GV90 uses multi-chamber air suspension with electronically controlled dampers, and its active rear-wheel steering can turn the rear wheels by up to 5 degrees, which reduces the turning radius and improves low-speed manoeuvrability as well as stability at higher speeds.

Exterior highlights

The Genesis GV90 ultra-luxury flagship SUV had to go radical to compete with the likes of the Range Rover or Mercedes-Maybach, and it did so by translating unique concept car aesthetics into a production-ready reality.

The top-tier Neolun variant features the arch gates, which implement rear-hinged coach doors with no traditional B-pillar, and the large boxy exterior is inspired by traditional seamless Korean moon jar ceramics.

GV90 evolves Genesis’s signature lighting with full-width Micro Lens Array (MLA) headlights seamlessly laser-engraved into the bodywork and a clamshell bonnet. The rear is clean with flush-mounted rear taillights.

The Neolun models sit on massive Maybach-style 24-inch wheels and an engineered hidden roll cage with a body frame 1.5 times thicker than standard cars to compensate for the B-pillar.

Interior built around technology

The GV90 introduces a New Power Control System that removes the traditional start button – pulling the door handle powers up the vehicle, while the gear selector and Crystal Sphere Controller move into position and the driver then presses the brake pedal to start driving.

A 23.6-inch OLED touchscreen sits in the centre, and when parked, it rises by 90mm to become a 24.6-inch display. A 25-inch head-up display replaces the conventional instrument cluster. 

The GV90 also gets Pleos Connect Android infotainment system and Gleo AI assistant.

The full-size luxury SUV also gets a world-first roof airbag to compensate for the lack of a B-pillar and ensure maximum rollover safety. The front rows can rotate 180 degrees to face the rear passengers, and the cabin also gets radiant underfloor heating inspired by traditional Korean ondol underfloor heating systems.

Remote Smart Parking Assist 3 and Memory Reversing Assist can handle parking and help retrace the vehicle’s previous path when reversing out of tight spaces.
