The updated Mercedes-Benz EQS electric luxury sedan range has been revealed with significant upgrades across its electric architecture, battery systems, software platform and chassis technology. More than 25 per cent of components have been revised, with improvements focused on range, charging speed, efficiency and digital capability.

Pricing and availability

The updated Mercedes-Benz EQS is available to order in Germany from €94,403 (incl. VAT), with additional variants including:

  • EQS 400
  • EQS 450+
  • EQS 500 4MATIC
  • EQS 580 4MATIC

The updated model adopts a new 800-volt architecture, paired with revised battery chemistry using silicon oxide blended with graphite to improve energy density while reducing cobalt content.

A two-speed transmission on the rear axle enables stronger low-speed acceleration and improved high-speed efficiency. Mid-range performance has also been enhanced, particularly at motorway speeds.

Towing capacity for rear-wheel-drive variants has increased to 1,600kg, close to the 1,700kg rating of all-wheel-drive models.

Charging and energy systems

  • Up to 350kW DC fast charging (800V)
  • Up to 320km WLTP range added in 10 minutes
  • Up to 175kW charging on 400V infrastructure via battery splitting
  • Regenerative braking up to 385kW

The Mercedes-Benz EQS now supports vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) functionality, enabling energy transfer back to the grid or a household where infrastructure allows.

Software and digital platform

A major addition is the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which centralises control of vehicle systems and enables continuous over-the-air updates.

  • AI-enabled processing and cloud connectivity
  • Expanded digital services and on-demand features
  • Advanced voice assistant with multi-step interaction capability

Navigation integrates Google Maps data, enhanced with EV-specific route planning that factors in charging, terrain and driving conditions.

Steering, chassis and ride

The updated Mercedes-Benz EQS introduces steer-by-wire technology, eliminating the mechanical link between steering wheel and front axle.

  • Variable steering ratios depending on speed
  • Reduced vibration feedback
  • Works with rear-axle steering (up to 10°)

A redundant system ensures steering functionality in case of failure.

The AIRMATIC suspension gains cloud-based damper control using Car-to-X data, allowing pre-emptive adjustments for road imperfections.

Driver assistance systems

The EQS uses a sensor suite comprising:

  • 10 cameras
  • Up to 5 radar sensors
  • 12 ultrasonic sensors

Updates include:

  • Diagonal parking capability
  • Automated parking speeds up to 5 km/h (around 60% faster)
  • Improved lane change and evasive steering systems
  • Automated reversing along previously driven routes

Aerodynamics and efficiency

The updated model retains a drag coefficient of 0.20, supported by refinements such as optimised mirrors and airflow management. The frontal area is 2.51 m², contributing to overall efficiency.

Lighting technology

The DIGITAL LIGHT system has been upgraded with micro-LEDs:

  • 40% larger high-resolution light field
  • Up to 50% lower energy consumption
  • High beam range up to 600 metres

Additional features include adaptive partial high beam and improved cornering illumination.

Interior and infotainment

The Mercedes-Benz EQS continues with the MBUX Hyperscreen, a 55-inch integrated display system combining three screens under a single glass surface.

Updates include:

  • Expanded app ecosystem (40+ apps)
  • Improved customisation and interface layout
  • AI-powered virtual assistant

Comfort and interior additions:

  • Heated seatbelts (up to 44°C)
  • New wood trims and laurel-pattern stitching
  • Optional leather-free materials

Rear-seat upgrades:

  • Dual 13.1-inch displays
  • Remote control interfaces
  • Integrated cameras for video conferencing

A HEPA filtration system removes up to 99.65% of airborne particles, with activated carbon filtering gases and odours.

Energy ecosystem and connectivity

  • Digital vehicle key via smartphone
  • In-car payment system (Mercedes pay+)
  • Intelligent charging with cost-optimised timing

Navigation with Electric Intelligence dynamically plans routes, charging stops and battery preconditioning.

Design and personalisation

Exterior revisions include updated lighting signatures, illuminated branding elements and revised front-end styling. The model is offered in Electric Art and AMG Line trims.

The MANUFAKTUR program includes:

  • Up to 125 paint options
  • Custom interior materials
  • Bespoke configurations

Summary

The updated Mercedes-Benz EQS electric luxury sedan range introduces a combination of hardware and software upgrades, including 800V architecture, revised battery systems, MB.OS integration and steer-by-wire technology. The changes focus on improving efficiency, charging performance and digital capability while maintaining the model’s positioning as a technology-led flagship.
