Mercedes-AMG has unveiled heavily updated versions of the GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and GLS 63 4MATIC+, introducing a revised twin-turbo V8 engine, fresh styling, upgraded technology and enhanced chassis systems. The refreshed performance SUVs are designed to keep AMG’s iconic V8 alive while meeting increasingly strict global emissions regulations.
The updated AMG flagship SUVs are powered by a revised version of Mercedes-AMG’s long-running 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, known internally as the M177 EVO. While output remains unchanged at 450kW and 850Nm, AMG says extensive engineering changes have improved responsiveness, efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Among the key updates are a new flat-plane crankshaft, revised intake camshaft, upgraded fuel-injection system and a redesigned exhaust after-treatment system. The engine also continues to be hand-built in Affalterbach under AMG’s traditional “One Man, One Engine” philosophy.

Updated V8 remains at the heart of AMG’s performance SUVs

Mercedes-AMG says the new M177 EVO engine represents the future of its V8-powered performance models. The introduction of a flat-plane crankshaft reduces rotational mass, helping the engine rev more freely while improving throttle response.
The V8 is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system featuring a second-generation Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The system contributes an additional 17kW and 205Nm during acceleration, while also enabling energy recuperation and smoother engine restarts.
Performance figures remain impressive for vehicles of this size.
| Model | Power | Torque | 0-100km/h |
| Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV | 450kW | 850Nm | 3.9 seconds |
| Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupe | 450kW | 850Nm | 3.9 seconds |
| Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC+ | 450kW | 850Nm | 4.2 seconds |
Top speed is electronically limited to 280km/h across the range.

New AMG Performance exhaust enhances V8 soundtrack

AMG has also introduced a newly developed Performance exhaust system. Featuring active exhaust valves, the setup allows drivers to alter the vehicle’s sound profile depending on the selected drive mode.
In Comfort mode, the exhaust remains relatively subdued, while Sport and Sport+ modes deliver a louder and more aggressive V8 soundtrack designed to emphasise the engine’s performance credentials.
Revised exterior design brings a sharper AMG look

The updated GLE 63 S and GLS 63 gain a redesigned front fascia featuring AMG’s signature Panamericana-style grille, larger cooling intakes and a unique LED lighting signature.
At the rear, both SUVs feature prominent twin exhaust outlets integrated into a revised diffuser design. The changes aim to give the models a more aggressive and modern appearance while reinforcing their position at the top of AMG’s SUV lineup.
Customers will also be able to choose from a wide range of alloy wheel designs, with sizes ranging up to 22 inches on the GLE 63 S and 23 inches on the GLS 63.
AMG suspension combines performance and comfort

Both SUVs continue to use AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive damping. The system continuously adjusts to road conditions and driving style, allowing drivers to switch between comfort-focused and performance-oriented settings.
The suspension also includes a dedicated Trail mode, which raises ride height by 55mm to improve off-road capability.
In Sport and Sport+ modes, the vehicles sit 10mm lower to improve aerodynamics and handling, while automatic ride-height management helps maintain stability regardless of passenger or cargo load.

Active roll stabilisation improves handling

Standard AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL technology uses electromechanical anti-roll bars on both axles to reduce body movement during cornering.
Sensors monitor vehicle dynamics up to 1,000 times per second, allowing the system to react almost instantly to changes in road conditions and driving inputs.
The technology works alongside AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and an electronically controlled rear locking differential to maximise traction, agility and stability.
AMG DYNAMIC SELECT offers multiple driving personalities

Drivers can choose from several AMG DYNAMIC SELECT modes, including:
- Comfort
- Sport
- Sport+
- Trail
- Slippery
- Individual
Each mode adjusts throttle response, transmission behaviour, steering weight, suspension settings and all-wheel-drive calibration.
Trail mode focuses on off-road performance, while Slippery mode is designed for low-grip conditions such as snow and ice.
Upgraded interior introduces latest AMG technology

Inside, the updated performance SUVs receive Mercedes-Benz’s latest MB.OS operating system, displayed through high-resolution digital screens.
The system includes AMG-specific displays showing:
- Torque distribution
- G-force measurements
- Engine performance data
- Vehicle dynamics information
A new AMG Performance steering wheel is available in Nappa leather, MICROCUT microfibre or carbon fibre finishes.
Buyers can also choose from a wide range of leather upholstery options, including exclusive MANUFAKTUR interior themes and customisation packages.
