Mercedes-Benz’s global “140 Years. 140 Places.” anniversary drive has officially arrived in Australia, with Melbourne becoming the first local stop for the brand’s worldwide S-Class convoy celebrating 140 years since the invention of the automobile.
The milestone journey brings three new Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans across more than 50,000 kilometres and six continents, visiting 140 destinations linked to the company’s history and global presence.
Melbourne’s inclusion in the tour reflects its significance in Mercedes-Benz Australia’s history. The city was home to Australia’s first Benz showroom, established in 1912 by German entrepreneur August Hoette at 103 Exhibition Street in Melbourne’s CBD.
As part of the Australian leg of the journey, the convoy will be displayed at the Fox Classic Car Collection in Docklands from June 19 to June 21, giving the public an opportunity to see the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class ahead of its local launch later this year.

New and historic Mercedes models on display

The exhibition will combine heritage vehicles with the latest Mercedes-Benz technology.
Among the key attractions will be the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, displayed alongside several previous generations of the luxury sedan to showcase the evolution of the brand’s flagship model.
Visitors will also be able to view the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA electric, one of the company’s most important upcoming electric vehicle launches, as well as the ultra-exclusive Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar.
The AMG ONE is powered by Formula One-derived hybrid technology and remains one of the rarest and most technically advanced road cars ever produced by Mercedes-AMG.
Historic vehicles owned by members of the Mercedes-Benz Club Victoria will also feature in the exhibition, including the iconic Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing.

Celebrating 140 years of the automobile

The global drive forms part of Mercedes-Benz’s celebrations marking 140 years since Carl Benz filed the patent for the Benz Patent-Motorwagen in January 1886, an invention widely recognised as the world’s first automobile.
The anniversary campaign began with the world premiere of the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class on January 29, 2026. Since then, the convoy has travelled through Europe, North America, South America and Asia before arriving in Australia.
At each destination, the new S-Class is joined by locally significant Mercedes-Benz vehicles, current production models and community events designed to highlight the brand’s heritage and technological development.
