Right now, Omoda Jaecoo sells three Jaecoo-badged models in Australia but only one wearing the Omoda name, the Omoda 9. That’s about to change in a big way, with the brand confirming the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 will join the local lineup, effectively tripling its Omoda offering.
Both SUVs will get their first proper Australian showing at the Everything Electric Sydney exhibition later this month, running September 18 to 20. It’s worth noting these two had originally been pencilled in for a 2026 arrival, so this represents a slip to 2027, not unusual for new-to-market brands juggling global rollout schedules, but worth flagging if you’d been holding out for one sooner.

Omoda 4 targets Australia’s small SUV buyers
The Omoda 4 will enter Australia’s competitive small SUV segment, putting it up against popular models such as the Hyundai Kona. Measuring 4420mm long, 1870mm wide and 1570mm tall, with a 2700mm wheelbase, the Omoda 4 is larger than the Kona in several key dimensions. Its wheelbase is also 40mm longer, which could potentially benefit interior space. The Omoda 4 uses the Chery Group’s T1X platform, which can accommodate petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains. However, Omoda Jaecoo Australia has not yet confirmed exactly which powertrains will be offered locally.
The SUV is currently available in Indonesia as an electric vehicle with a 65kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a 163kW/275Nm electric motor. It claims up to 553km of range under the older NEDC testing cycle. Other international markets are also set to receive petrol and hybrid versions, including a 1.5-litre hybrid producing 165kW and 295Nm. Whether any of these versions will reach Australian showrooms remains unconfirmed.
Omoda 7 to take on Toyota RAV4
Sitting above the Omoda 4, the Omoda 7 will compete in Australia’s medium SUV segment, home to the Toyota RAV4 and a growing number of electrified alternatives. At 4630mm long, 1880mm wide and 1680mm tall, with a 2725mm wheelbase, the Omoda 7 is almost identical in size to the Toyota RAV4. The Omoda 7 is available overseas with petrol and plug-in hybrid power, and Australian certification documents published earlier this year have already provided a strong clue about what could be coming here.
The documents list a front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid using a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 105kW, paired with a 150kW electric motor and a dedicated hybrid transmission. Omoda Jaecoo has yet to officially confirm Australian specifications or outputs. In the UK, the Omoda 7 PHEV uses an 18.3kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and offers up to 90km of electric-only range under the WLTP testing cycle.
More electrified options are on the way
While full Australian specifications remain under wraps, Omoda Jaecoo has described the arrival of the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 as an expansion of its new energy range, suggesting electrified versions will play an important role. The Omoda 7 also brings some unusual technology, including an available 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that can slide across the dashboard towards the front passenger.
The two new SUVs will arrive as competition within the Chery Group itself continues to grow. Omoda Jaecoo already sits alongside the Chery brand in Australia, while the Lepas brand is also due to launch locally. For Australian buyers, the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 will add two more options to the increasingly crowded small and medium SUV markets. More importantly, their arrival could give buyers greater choice when it comes to hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric power.
Omoda Jaecoo says further Australian details, including local specifications and powertrains, will be announced closer to the 2027 launches.
