The lowest price to switch to convertible ownership in recent years is the Holden Cascada, which starts at $22,999 up to $70,990 for recently built cars. It's no longer in production, so parts availability and access to a mechanic experienced with the model should be considered before making the purchase. But for the budget conscious that want the real deal in a first convertible, it's the cheapest.
What about Toyota, Mercedes, MG or Audi?
It's better to be upfront about it than let the search go 'round and 'round. Toyota, MG and Audi don't make a convertible for Australia at the moment, so there will be no point in looking for any of these three badges in Australia.
Mercedes-Benz is a bit different; it does produce convertibles, such as the C-Class Cabriolet, and this is a real category, but these are rarely available in the used market.

Also, convertibles sit for longer periods of time than daily-driver cars, and tyre age and battery condition are far better checked than assumed, so low kilometres don't necessarily indicate they are in good condition. On models like the MX-5, it’s worth having a close look at the sills and rear wheel arches for rust.
