BYD has confirmed Australian pricing and specifications for the 2026 BYD Atto 3 Evo, which is the biggest overhaul yet for this electric SUV that helped establish the brand locally.

BYD entered Australia’s passenger-car market in February 2022, with the Atto 3 reaching local driveways later that year. The medium SUV received a midlife refresh in 2024 and minor updates in 2025.

The Atto 3 Evo goes much further and brings new styling, a heavily revised cabin and two very different drivetrains and is slated to arrive in showrooms in September 2026.

2026 BYD Atto 3 Evo

The Atto 3 arrived with relatively little direct competition, but its Evo model enters a very different market. The BYD Atto 3 Evo Dynamic now competes with Chinese-built electric SUVs including the Geely EX5, Chery E5, MG S5/MG4 and GWM Ora Sport. It also faces more premium electric rivals including the Hyundai Kona Electric, Leapmotor C10 and B10, and Kia EV3.

Pricing and release date of the 2026 BYD Atto 3 Evo

The new Atto 3 Evo range keeps the familiar Dynamic and Premium names and replaces the outgoing Essential ($39,990 before on-road costs) and Premium ($44,990 before on-road costs) variants introduced here in January 2025.

Orders for the new Evo lineup are open now, and deliveries will start in September 2026.

Powertrain and performance of the two Evo variants

The Dynamic variant retains the more familiar Atto 3 mechanical layout and focuses on range, practicality and value. The headline change in the lineup is the Atto 3 Evo Premium, which gets rear-wheel drive and the 800V e-Platform 3.0 architecture.

New exterior but same dimensions

The Atto 3 Evo keeps the outgoing model’s dimensions:

  • Length: 4455mm
  • Width: 1875mm
  • Height: 1615mm
  • Wheelbase: 2720mm

But the brand has reworked almost everything around those proportions.

The front bumper gets stronger lines and larger visual elements, while the daytime running lights now stretch across the front.

The Chinese-knot LED tail-lights extend across the full width at the rear, and the roof spoiler, centre brake light, lower bumper and number-plate area are also redesigned.

Both variants get their own 18-inch alloy-wheel design, and a panoramic sunroof, roof rails and a one-touch powered tailgate also feature.

Ski White paint option comes standard, Harbour Grey and Cosmos Black cost $600, while Premium buyers can also choose Atlantis Grey.

Biggest Atto 3 interior update yet

BYD has moved the gear selector from the centre console to the steering column, freeing more storage space, and the driver display grows from 5.0 to 8.8 inches. Other cabin changes include:

  • Redesigned steering wheel
  • New door trims
  • Multi-colour ambient lighting
  • Redesigned seats
  • Sunglasses holder
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • New grey interior finish
  • 50W wireless phone charging, up from 15W
  • Physical buttons for frequently used controls

The Dynamic includes electrically adjustable driver’s seating, heated and ventilated front seats and an eight-speaker sound system. Premium adds dual-zone climate control and 4-way powered lumbar adjustment for the driver.

Rear-wheel drive also frees more luggage space in the Premium; boot capacity increases from 434 to 490 litres, or from 1340 to 1360 litres with the rear seats folded. Removing the front drive motor also creates a new 101-litre front storage compartment or frunk.

Connectivity and safety

The infotainment system gets a cleaner interface and faster responses, while wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain available.

The voice assistant gains faster commands and improved voice-zone recognition. The BYD app supports remote locking, climate control, window operation and vehicle location, while mobile NFC key access is also available.

New safety equipment includes Child Presence Detection, which can detect someone left inside after the vehicle locks, and a Driver Monitoring System that watches for fatigue, distraction or unsafe behaviour.

Premium also adds Front Cross Traffic Alert and Front Cross Traffic Brake.

BYD backs Australian Atto 3 Evo models with a 6-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty and an 8-year/150,000km drive-unit warranty.

BYD is currently going strong in the local market and is one of the best-selling brands here, and has maintained the second top-selling brand spot since April 2026. It has sold 60,192 vehicles YTD in 2026 until July and holds the number two position.
