Chery is preparing a significant update for its E5 electric SUV for the 2027 model year, with styling and equipment changes inside and out. The changes should help the E5 stay competitive against its more popular corporate cousin, the Jaecoo J5 EV.
The E5 won’t receive a new powertrain for 2027, but Chery has focused on the areas buyers will notice most, like the cabin and exterior styling.
Australian pricing remains unconfirmed. The updated equipment already comes standard on the E5 EVs sold in overseas markets such as Thailand, and the Chinese carmaker has also revealed the updated E5 for Brazil.
Exterior: 2027 E5 gets a new look
The updated Chery E5 gets several exterior changes designed to give it a cleaner, simpler appearance:
- Active front grille shutter
- Redesigned front bumper
- Redesigned rear bumper
- Electrically operated charging-port cover
The charging-port cover in the front replaces the current manually operated version. The 18-inch alloy wheels remain standard.
Chery calls the more aggressive front-end treatment “Robo Shark design” in overseas markets.
Powertrain carries over
Chery has not announced any changes to the E5’s front-mounted electric motor putting out 155kW / 288Nm, and the company also continues to claim a 430km WLTP driving range from a single charge. It continues to support DC fast charging of up to 80kW, charging the battery from 30% to 80% in under 30 minutes.

Existing Chery E5 or Omoda E5 EV
Interior: Bigger touchscreen and better seats
The biggest interior change comes from the infotainment system, as the central touchscreen grows from 12.3 inches to 15.6 inches. Chery also adds an auto-dimming rear-view mirror to the standard equipment list.
The driver’s seat gains several new functions for 2027, including four-way lumbar adjustment, ventilation, and a massage function.
The front passenger seat also gets an upgrade and now offers six-way power adjustment, up from four-way, along with ventilation.
More equipment remains standard
The MY27 changes sit alongside equipment already offered on the E5 Down Under, which includes:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Synthetic-leather seat upholstery
- Dual-zone climate control
- Eight-speaker audio system
The E5 also carries a five-star ANCAP safety rating and comes with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Australian price remains unconfirmed
Chery launched the E5 in Australia in 2024 as the Chery Omoda E5, and it now comes in a single Ultimate grade.
Chery has yet to confirm the MY27 E5’s Australian pricing and release date, or whether the current $37,990 drive-away price will change.
The E5 remains the only electric vehicle in Chery Australia’s showrooms.
How the E5 compares on price
At $37,990 drive-away, the current E5 sits below several key electric SUV rivals, but Chery has yet to say whether the MY27 E5 will maintain its current pricing advantage.

Chery has increased its Australian sales by 64.3% so far in 2026, and its top-selling model is the Tiggo 4 small SUV, which Chery offers with petrol or hybrid powertrains.
The Tiggo 4 currently shares the title of Australia’s cheapest SUV with the Mahindra XUV 3XO, with a temporary discount.
