Hyundai Motor Company Australia has launched the refreshed 2027 Staria and Staria Load, introducing a new hybrid powertrain across its passenger and commercial van range, updated styling, new technology and a flagship seven-seat Staria Lounge.

The updated models are available to order now, with prices starting from $49,990 before on-road costs for the Staria Load and $54,300 before on-road costs for the passenger Staria. Hyundai has also confirmed an all-electric Staria Load will join the range in the second half of 2026.

The headline mechanical change includes a new 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol-hybrid powertrain producing 180kW and 304Nm, offered in the new Staria Lounge and both Staria Load hybrid variants. Hyundai says the latter is the first commercial van in its segment in Australia to offer a hybrid powertrain. The existing 2.2-litre turbo-diesel (130kW) and 3.5-litre petrol V6 (200kW) remain available in the passenger Staria, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while hybrid models use a six-speed automatic.

Exterior updates include a revised front bumper and grille, integrated horizon lighting and new alloy wheel designs, while vertically stacked tail-lights remain. The Staria Load continues to offer a choice of a liftback tailgate or twin swing rear doors.

Inside, Hyundai has introduced its latest Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) infotainment system with a 12.3-inch multimedia display, alongside Bluelink connected services with a five-year complimentary subscription and over-the-air software updates.

Passenger Staria models also receive a new four-spoke leather steering wheel and a steering column-mounted Shift-by-Wire selector, while the Staria Load retains a conventional gear selector and adopts a redesigned open centre console.

Hybrid powertrain

The new 1.6-litre T-GDi Hybrid combines a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 180kW and 304Nm, driving the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai claims combined fuel consumption of 6.5L/100km, compared with 7.2L/100km for the diesel passenger Staria and 10.5L/100km for the petrol model. Hybrid models also introduce Hyundai’s e-Motion Drive technology, which includes e-Ride, e-Handling and e-Evasive Handling Assist to improve ride comfort, cornering stability and vehicle control during emergency manoeuvres.

Braked towing capacity for hybrid variants is rated at 2,000kg, compared with 2,500kg for diesel and petrol models.
