Mazda has confirmed plans for a new CX-3 for 2027, which will replace the current compact SUV as the brand targets high-volume markets across Asia and Oceania. Mazda is keeping its smallest SUV, with the firm confirming in its latest financial report that the CX-3 compact SUV will enter its next generation in 2027.
The newest iteration of the CX-3 will be produced in Thailand, with Mazda planning to utilise the AutoAlliance Thailand facility for the next-generation small SUV. However, despite the CX-3’s long-standing presence in the Australian market, it is still yet to be confirmed if Mazda will bring the 2027 model to Australia.
New Mazda CX-3 confirmed for 2027
The current Mazda CX-3 has been on sale since 2014, which means that a complete model change is long overdue, particularly considering how much the small-SUV class has evolved in recent years.
It is unclear what the powertrain options, interior, exterior dimensions, and Australian specifications of the new model will be, as Mazda has yet to release production photos of the next-generation CX-3.
However, the firm previously showed sketches of a small SUV in Thailand, which are understood to provide an indication of the design direction of the upcoming model.
The design preview suggests that the new Mazda CX-3 will adopt more modern proportions and a sportier front end than its predecessor, while also using design elements from the firm’s newer SUVs.

Hybrid power expected for the new CX-3
While Mazda has yet to release specific engine options for the new CX-3, the company is expected to offer more than conventional petrol power as it continues to expand electrification across its model range.
International reports suggest that the new Mazda CX-3 will be available with petrol, mild-hybrid, and full-hybrid powertrains, which would make it significantly more competitive in an increasingly electrified small-SUV segment.
It is also possible that a six-speed manual gearbox will be available for non-hybrid variants of the CX-3, but this has yet to be officially confirmed.
As for the Australian market, the powertrain options will be extremely relevant, as several local competitors offer hybrid powertrains.
The Mazda CX-3 currently competes with the Toyota Yaris Cross, Hyundai Kona, and Honda HR-V, and with the growing presence of China’s small SUVs, local buyers have an even greater variety of options.

Will the new Mazda CX-3 come to Australia?
Mazda has yet to confirm if the new CX-3 will be available in Australia. The compact SUV is set to launch in Thailand in 2027, where the current model is already produced for the Australian market, while Oceania is identified as one of the regions Mazda is targeting for the CX-3.
However, there is currently no information suggesting that the new model will be imported to Australia.
Mazda Australia will have to officially confirm that the next-generation CX-3 will be imported to the country, along with its local powertrain options, specifications, and price.
Until then, local buyers should be aware that the firm has only officially stated that the 2027 Mazda CX-3 will launch in 2027, with more details set to be shared closer to the launch.
