Mercedes-Benz has launched the new 2027 C-Class lineup globally in Germany, and it is said to be the most comprehensive technical upgrade in the 44-year history of the nameplate. The range gets revised petrol and diesel engines, plug-in hybrid power, new driver-assistance technology and a more advanced interior technology.
Only the sedan variants of the petrol and PHEV, C-Class Electric, and later an AMG model will be joining the Australian market within H1 2027. The updated models are open for orders in Europe, and the prices start at €41,045 (A$67,490) excluding VAT in Germany for the C200 Saloon.

Pricing and Australian launch
The major mid-life facelift of the C-Class introduces updated mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, alongside its first-ever C-Class Electric sibling. The order books have opened in Germany, and the prices start at €41,045 (or A$67,490) excluding VAT.

Australian pricing will be announced nearer to the launch, but to get an estimate, the current C200 Saloon starts at $88,928 before on-road costs here.
Deliveries of the new C-Class are scheduled to land down under in the first half of 2027, and it will be sold as a Saloon (sedan) only; its petrol and PHEV models will arrive around the same time as the already-revealed C-Class Electric built on the new MB.EA platform. And finally, an AMG C53 six-cylinder is also expected to arrive shortly after the above launches.
Refined 4-cylinder engine with advanced tech
Mercedes-Benz has revised the C-Class combustion-engine range around 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, which gets the 2nd-generation integrated starter-generator or ISG 2.0. It can add up to 17kW and 205 Nm, recover energy, allow the car to coast with the engine switched off, and smooth out engine starts and transitions.
A new electric auxiliary compressor works with the 48-volt system to build torque at low engine speeds and reduce turbo lag.
The 2.0-litre M254 Evo four-cylinder petrol engine now comes in three versions and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive:
- C200 produces 130kW and 270Nm
- C250 makes 160kW and 320Nm
- C300 delivers 190kW and 400Nm with 20kW overboost function
The diesel range uses the revised OM 654 EVO four-cylinder engine in C200d and C250d forms, producing 120kW and 147kW respectively, but Australia is missing out on the new C-Class diesel variants.
Plug-in hybrid gets 100km EV range
The C400 e 4Matic combines the four-cylinder petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor, and its total output reaches 290kW and torque peaks at 650Nm. Its 19.53kWh usable battery provides up to 100km of electric driving under WLTP, and it can charge at up to 11kW on AC and 55kW on DC fast chargers.
Mercedes will also launch the AMG C53 shortly after the core variants with a brand-new six-cylinder engine pushing roughly 450hp or 335kW. All engines are designed to meet upcoming Euro 7 requirements.

Loaded with modern technology in the cabin
The latest C-Class runs Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS operating system and fourth-generation MBUX, and it combines AI from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini, while the MBUX Virtual Assistant can handle more conversations.
Google Maps-based navigation now works with Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent, and drivers can ask about charging stations and parking, including availability. Mercedes also offers MBUX Surround Navigation and, for the first time in the C-Class, augmented-reality navigation from the S-Class and EQS.
And on the equipment side, the German luxury brand shifts toward improved materials and layout ergonomics. Here are its key interior highlights:
- 12.3-inch digital instrument panel
- 11.9-inch portrait centre touchscreen

Better driver assistance and practical upgrades
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class can use up to 10 cameras, 5 radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors for its MB.Drive assistance systems, and depending on the package, the technology can help with steering, lane keeping, braking, acceleration, lane changes and parking. A new Reverse Function can also retrace part of a previously driven route in certain situations.
