Key highlights:
- Audi’s hotter S6 E-Tron Avant has been spotted at the Nürburgring
- The electric wagon could wear the Performance badge rather than RS
- Global launch timing, final name and upgrades remain unconfirmed
Audi is developing a hotter version of the S6 Avant E-Tron, with fresh spy photos from Nürburgring, Germany, suggesting the electric wagon could receive more aggressive styling and performance upgrades. It could arrive for Europe and North America as an S6 Avant E-Tron Performance rather than a loaded RS model, although Audi has yet to confirm its name or launch date. The photos were posted by Carscoops.
The new wagon would join the upcoming next-generation RS6 Avant, expected to debut in 2027 with a potent PHEV powertrain. It would also give buyers a pure electric performance alternative to Audi’s ICE and hybrid wagons.
The all-electric high-performance luxury station wagon is unlikely to come Down Under as the brand does not sell even a standard S6 Avant e-tron here.
Audi S6 Avant E-Tron: What the spy photos reveal

The latest prototype was spotted testing at the Nürburgring, wearing camouflage wrap that conceals most of its bodywork, but the gaps in the covering reveal a light-grey exterior finish, while the redesigned body kit sets it apart from the existing S6 E-Tron.
Its key exterior changes include:
- Front bumper: Redesigned air intakes and a more prominent front splitter.
- Front grille and headlights: The prototype retains the split-headlight arrangement and covered Singleframe grille used across the A6/S6 E-Tron family.
- Front guards: Tweaked front fenders feature slim openings beside the front doors, hinting at a slightly wider stance.
- Wheels and side skirts: Large-diameter alloy wheels feature six double spokes and a diamond-cut finish, while sharper side skirts add to the sportier look.
- Rear end: A reshaped roof spoiler and a larger diffuser occupy more space on the rear bumper.
As a fully electric vehicle, the wagon won’t get the enormous oval exhaust outlets expected on the upcoming RS6 and already seen on the RS5 Avant.
Will it be an S6 Performance or an RS6 E-Tron?
Audi’s plans for a high-performance electric wagon have taken an uncertain path. Last year, reports suggested the RS6 Avant E-Tron had been cancelled because demand for high-performance EVs was weaker than expected.
However, spy photographers have continued to spot camouflaged prototypes of a more potent S6 E-Tron in both Sportback and Avant body styles.
The latest rumours suggest Audi could use the Performance badge instead of giving the wagon the full RS treatment. Regardless of the final name, the redesigned aerodynamics suggest the new model could receive performance and chassis upgrades to distinguish it from the regular S6 E-Tron.
Audi is also developing a more powerful version of the SQ6 E-Tron SUV. That model shares the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture with the S6 E-Tron and Porsche Macan EV.

Existing Audi S6 E-Tron performance
The current S6 E-Tron provides a useful starting point for understanding what the hotter wagon could deliver.
| Specification | Audi S6 E-tron |
|---|---|
| Battery | 100kWh |
| Drivetrain | Dual motor AWD |
| Power output | Up to 405kW |
| 0-100km/h | 3.9 seconds |
| Top speed | 240km/h |
| EV range (WLTP) | 640km |
The existing model produces 405kW when Launch Control is activated, and it can accelerate from 0–100km/h in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 240km/h.
Its 100kWh battery delivers a claimed WLTP range of up to 640km between charges. Audi has yet to reveal whether the hotter wagon will receive more power, a revised battery setup or other mechanical changes.
How it fits into Audi’s performance range

The new electric wagon would expand Audi Sport’s lineup alongside the next-generation RS6 Avant and the RS5 Avant, which is already attracting attention from automotive media and buyers in Europe.
Audi’s flagship e-Tron GT Performance is not available as an Avant, so the new model could become the brand’s most capable electric wagon. Its potential rivals include Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic, BMW i5 M60 xDrive, and Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo.
Audi has not announced a launch date. More information about the high-performance electric wagon is expected in the coming months.
Potential launch in Australia
The Audi S6 Avant e-tron is not sold in Australia due to low local demand for large luxury electric passenger cars and strict pricing challenges tied to the federal Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold. The brand has pivoted its electric focus toward slightly smaller luxury EV crossovers like the Q6 e-tron, which slide much closer to the luxury car tax sweet spot.
