BMW Group’s newest manufacturing facility in Debrecen, Hungary, has reached a significant milestone, producing its 50,000th BMW iX3 just nine months after series production began.
The achievement marks the fastest production ramp-up ever recorded at a new BMW Group factory and highlights the growing demand for the BMW iX3, the first production model based on the company’s next-generation Neue Klasse architecture.
BMW says the milestone demonstrates the plant’s ability to quickly scale production while maintaining quality standards, with customer demand continuing to grow following the electric SUV’s global launch.

Fastest ramp-up for a new BMW factory
According to BMW, the rapid production increase was aided by the introduction of a second shift in February 2026, earlier than originally planned.
The company accelerated staffing and production capacity in response to strong market demand for the BMW iX3. BMW revealed that incoming orders are approaching the 100,000-unit mark, suggesting sustained interest in the model across key global markets.
“The 50,000th BMW iX3 underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen. Never before have we built so many vehicles so quickly at a new plant,” said Raymond Wittmann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production.
“This milestone is the result of an outstanding team effort.”

BMW iX3 leads the Neue Klasse era
The BMW iX3 is more than just another electric SUV for the German brand. It serves as the first series-production vehicle built on the Neue Klasse platform, which will underpin BMW’s future electric vehicle lineup.
The model’s launch also coincided with the opening of the all-new Debrecen factory, making the facility a cornerstone of BMW’s next-generation EV manufacturing strategy.
BMW says the plant will play a critical role in supporting the global rollout of Neue Klasse vehicles as the company expands its electric vehicle portfolio over the coming years.
Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, said the milestone reflects the importance of the factory within BMW’s broader production network.
“The production of the 50,000th BMW iX3 reflects the dedication and expertise of our team. As the home of the first series-produced Neue Klasse model, Plant Debrecen is helping shape the future of the BMW Group’s global production network,” Kemser said.

Lessons from Debrecen to support future BMW launches
BMW plans to introduce 40 new or updated models globally by the end of 2027, and the lessons learned during the iX3 launch are expected to benefit factories across its international production network.
The company says insights gained from Debrecen are already being shared with other manufacturing sites, helping improve efficiency, speed and quality during future vehicle launches.
BMW uses a combination of digital tools, shared databases and cross-factory collaboration to transfer knowledge between plants. This allows potential production issues to be identified and addressed early before they affect manufacturing operations elsewhere.
Wittmann said knowledge sharing will remain a key component of BMW’s production strategy as the company continues its large-scale product rollout.
“Each of our plants benefits from launch experiences we have made at Plant Debrecen. By the end of 2027, we will launch 40 new or updated models. Efficiency, speed and quality are crucial for the successful launch of all vehicles,” he said.

While BMW Australia has not announced local sales figures for the new-generation iX3, the production milestone indicates the company is successfully scaling output to meet global demand.
