BYD Shark 6 Performance gets more power and towing

The new Shark 6 Performance sits at the top of the lineup and gets a larger 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with BYD’s Dual Mode (DM) Super Hybrid setup.
It produces 350kW and 700Nm, which is higher than the 321kW and 650Nm offered in the Shark 6 Dynamic and Shark 6 Premium variants. BYD claims the Shark 6 Performance can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds.
One of the biggest upgrades is towing capacity. The Shark 6 Performance can tow up to 3,500kg braked, while the Dynamic and Premium variants are rated at 2,500kg.

Shark 6 Dynamic Cab-Chassis targets tradies
The Shark 6 Dynamic Cab-Chassis has been designed with trade and fleet buyers in mind. Buyers can opt for a heavy-duty alloy tray with integrated tie-down points and lockable storage boxes.
The tray has been developed to handle Australian conditions, including UV exposure, corrosion, and rough-road use. BYD says the tray maintains compatibility with the vehicle’s ADAS safety systems and charging interfaces.

BYD Shark 6 off-road features

All Shark 6 variants continue to use double wishbone suspension at both ends instead of the traditional leaf-spring setup seen in many utes.
The Shark 6 lineup also gets multiple terrain modes, including Mud, Sand, Snow, and Mountain modes.
The new Shark 6 Performance additionally introduces a Crawl Mode for tougher off-road conditions such as rocks, deep ruts, and steep climbs. Crawl Mode limits speed to 12km/h while automatically managing torque delivery for improved traction.
BYD has confirmed Crawl Mode will later arrive on existing Shark 6 Premium and Dynamic variants through an over-the-air update.

BYD Shark 6 battery and hybrid system

Every Shark 6 variant uses BYD’s Dual Mode Off-Road (DMO) AWD platform along with a 29.58kWh Blade Battery.
The system allows the ute to operate in three driving modes:
- Pure EV mode for electric-only driving
- HEV Series mode where the engine charges the battery
- HEV Parallel mode where the engine and electric motors work together
BYD says this setup allows buyers to handle short daily commutes using EV power while still benefiting from hybrid efficiency on longer drives.
