Geely is preparing for a big expansion in Australia as it plans to double the size of its local lineup in 2027, starting with the Emgrand L EM-i plug-in hybrid sedan and adding two more SUVs later. All three new models are confirmed to launch in H1 2027 and will use either plug-in hybrid or pure electric powertrains.
The Geely Emgrand L EM-i PHEV sedan will act as the Chinese brand’s entry-level sedan and first non-SUV/hatchback offering in Australia after the early 2010s imported Geely MK.
After that, a bigger, mid-size, fully electric sedan is also confirmed to arrive Down Under in 2027, which will sit above the Emgrand L as a more premium, battery-electric alternative.
These new models will join Geely’s existing lot, which includes the EX2 small electric hatch, the EX5 mid-size electric SUV, and the Starray EM-i mid-size PHEV SUV.
Emgrand L EM-i leads Geely’s 2027 push
The Emgrand L EM-i will become Geely Australia’s first sedan since its 2025 local relaunch under a factory-backed operation.
The Emgrand L EM-i will be a small-to-medium PHEV sedan which sits just above the Geely EX2 in size, and it will appear at the Everything Electric Show in Sydney from September 18 to 20, ahead of its Australian launch in the first half of 2027.
Geely hasn’t released Australian specifications yet, but the closely related Chinese-market Starshine 6 gives an idea of what the Emgrand L EM-i could offer.

The Starshine 6 sedan measures 4806mm long, 1886mm wide and 1490mm tall, with a 2756mm wheelbase, which makes it 96mm longer, 61mm wider and 70mm taller than a Hyundai i30 Sedan, while its wheelbase stretches 36mm further. Overall, it sits slightly smaller than a Toyota Camry.

Two more SUVs are coming
Geely says visitors will also get a sneak preview at what’s to come, with another two SUV models joining the Australian range in 2027. The company hasn’t revealed their nameplates yet, but its previous comments point towards three likely additions:
- A large five-seat SUV
- A large three-row seven-seat SUV
- A box-style off-roader
Geely Australia managing director and Geely Auto vice president Alex Gu said, “In H1 2027 we will have a big five-seat, and we will try to bring a seven-seat. In H2 we will bring the ‘box-style’ models.”
Geely has now confirmed that next year’s new models will all fall under its “new energy” strategy, which means they will use plug-in hybrid or battery-electric power.
Monjaro PHEV could become the large five-seat SUV
One likely SUV candidate is the Monjaro PHEV, which Geely has already confirmed for the UK market. The large SUV uses car-like unibody construction and its name reportedly draws inspiration from Mount Kilimanjaro.
Although Geely has produced the Monjaro since 2021, it only announced the PHEV version for global markets this year, and Egypt became its first export market.
The 5-seat PHEV uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and offers front- or all-wheel drive.

The Monjaro measures 4800mm long, 1895mm wide and 1700mm tall, riding on a 2845mm wheelbase and compared with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, it’s 80mm longer, 33mm wider and 51mm lower.
Despite its larger footprint, the Monjaro only seats five people, which is also the case with the mid-size Starray EM-i, which Geely already sells in Australia.
Galaxy Battleship 700 PHEV
The other major addition is the large off-road Galaxy Battleship 700 PHEV SUV, which Geely plans to bring to Australia as its box-style SUV. It appeared as the Galaxy Cruiser Concept last year and is yet to launch in China.

It measures 5085mm long, 1999mm wide and up to 1925mm tall, with a 2900mm wheelbase, which makes it only fractionally larger than a Toyota Prado.
The Galaxy Battleship 700 also has only five seats, and it uses a new architecture that Geely describes as a combination of unibody underpinnings with an integrated frame.
The Galaxy Battleship 700 PHEV uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, three electric motors and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, but it will also sell with a less powerful turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder PHEV powertrain in some markets.
Geely calls the Galaxy Cruiser 700 a hardcore off-road vehicle and backs that claim with a range of off-road hardware and figures.

Geely wants to become Australia’s top Chinese brand
Alex Gu has previously said he wants Geely to become Australia’s number-one Chinese auto brand by the end of the decade. Last year’s VFACTS sales figures show how much ground Geely needs to cover, and it would have to beat GWM’s 52,800 units to take the top spot among Chinese brands.
GWM and BYD, however, are both forecasting much higher sales volumes in 2026 as they continue expanding their ranges.
The 2027 PHEV trio won’t be the end of Geely’s Australian expansion. The company also announced plans to launch an electric mid-size sedan and SUV over the next 12 months, and those models will join:
- Emgrand L EM-i PHEV sedan
- Monjaro PHEV SUV
- Galaxy Battleship 700 PHEV SUV
- EX2 electric hatch
- EX5 electric SUV
- Starray EM-i PHEV mid-size SUV
This plan would give Geely a much broader mix of electric and plug-in hybrid models.
The Emgrand L EM-i won’t be the first Geely-badged sedan sold in Australia because this distinction belongs to the Geely MK. John Hughes imported the MK in the early 2010s and the Western Australian dealer brought in both sedan and hatchback versions, but those became its only Geely models. Geely then faded from the Australian market around the middle of the decade.
