GWM has reached a major milestone in Australia, recording its 250,000th vehicle sale since establishing its local operations.
The milestone vehicle was a Flamingo Pink GWM ORA 5 SUV, delivered to Melbourne primary school arts teacher Louise Johnson from Hoppers Crossing.
The achievement comes as GWM enters a period of significant expansion in the Australian market, with the Chinese automotive brand preparing to launch a range of new and updated models as it works towards its goal of becoming one of Australia’s Top 5 automotive brands by 2027.

GWM reaches 250,000 sales in Australia
GWM’s 250,000th Australian vehicle marks the latest milestone in the brand’s local growth, with the company having expanded considerably from its early presence in the market. The brand now operates across several vehicle lines, including Haval SUVs, Tank four-wheel drives, Cannon utes and ORA electric vehicles.
GWM says its Australian expansion has been supported by the growth of its national dealer network, investment in local engineering and validation programs and an increasingly broad range of powertrains. The company’s Australian line-up now includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and internal combustion vehicles, allowing it to compete across a wider range of market segments.
The 250,000th sale also follows GWM’s record June 2026 sales result, highlighting the brand’s recent momentum in Australia.

The milestone was fittingly marked by an electric vehicle, with Louise Johnson taking delivery of the GWM ORA 5 SUV. Johnson said the Flamingo Pink SUV had already attracted attention from her colleagues and students at the Melbourne primary school where she teaches.
“My students noticed it in the car park on day one and haven’t stopped talking about it since,” Johnson said.
“They love the colour and the fact that it’s electric. It’s become a real talking point around the art room.”
The GWM ORA 5 is an important model for GWM as the company expands its presence in Australia’s growing electric vehicle market. The milestone delivery also highlights the increasing range of customers being targeted by GWM, including buyers considering an EV for the first time.

GWM targets Top 5 position in Australia by 2027

GWM is now preparing for what it describes as its largest-ever product offensive in Australia.
The company has nine new and updated models planned for the Australian market over the coming months as it continues to expand its product portfolio.
Among the upcoming vehicles is the GWM Cannon Hi4-T plug-in hybrid, which will add another electrified option to the brand’s ute line-up.
GWM also plans to introduce new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel variants, giving the company additional options for customers who continue to prefer conventional diesel powertrains.
The strategy is designed to give GWM a broader presence across Australia’s SUV, ute and passenger vehicle markets while catering to buyers with different powertrain preferences.
GWM Australia Chief Operating Officer John Kett said the 250,000-sales milestone reflected the growing confidence of Australian customers in the brand.
“Two hundred and fifty thousand sales is a significant achievement for any brand, but what means the most to us is who that number represents,” Kett said.
He added that customers such as Johnson demonstrated how GWM was attracting buyers who may not previously have considered the brand.

GWM expands its Australian vehicle range
GWM’s growth in Australia has coincided with a broader shift in the company’s product strategy. Rather than relying on a single vehicle category, the brand has expanded across multiple segments through its Haval, Tank, Cannon and ORA nameplates.
This has allowed GWM to target buyers looking for everything from family SUVs and off-road vehicles to utes and electric vehicles. The company’s upcoming product launches are expected to further broaden that footprint, with the brand combining conventional petrol and diesel models with hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles.
GWM is also continuing to invest in its Australian dealer network and local engineering and validation programs as it prepares for further growth. Kett said the speed at which GWM has reached successive sales milestones demonstrates the momentum it has built in the Australian market.
“What’s particularly exciting is how quickly these milestones are now arriving,” he said.
“Each one has come faster than the last, reflecting the momentum we’ve built through better products, stronger dealer partners and growing customer confidence.”

What is next for GWM in Australia?
The 250,000th Australian sale represents a significant point in GWM’s local expansion, but the company is already looking towards its next stage of growth. With nine new and updated models scheduled to arrive, GWM will attempt to build on its recent sales performance and increase its share of the Australian new-car market.
The upcoming Cannon Hi4-T PHEV, new diesel variants and further electrified models will give the brand a broader mix of vehicles as Australian buyers increasingly consider different powertrain technologies. GWM’s longer-term target is to become one of Australia’s Top 5 automotive brands by 2027.
The company says its continued investment in products, dealers and local development will be central to achieving that goal. For now, the delivery of the Flamingo Pink ORA 5 to Johnson provides a distinctive marker for GWM’s latest Australian milestone, with the brand reaching 250,000 local vehicle sales as it prepares for another major phase of expansion.
