Hispano Suiza unveils HSDD technology for Carmen Sagrera

Spanish luxury carmaker Hispano Suiza has unveiled its proprietary Hispano Suiza Driver Dynamics (HSDD) technology, a new electronic control system designed to improve performance, stability and driver confidence without compromising the engagement expected from a high-performance hypercar.

Developed specifically for the Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera, the HSDD suite quietly manages the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour by continuously monitoring and adjusting traction, torque distribution, braking and stability. Rather than taking over the driving experience, the system is designed to operate discreetly in the background, supporting the driver only when required.

The announcement highlights the brand’s philosophy of “Invisible Technology”, where advanced software enhances performance while preserving the direct connection between the driver and the vehicle.

Designed to enhance, not replace, the driver

Unlike many modern performance cars that rely heavily on visible driver assistance systems, Hispano Suiza says HSDD has been engineered to remain virtually unnoticed during normal driving.

The system coordinates several vehicle dynamics functions, including:

  • Grip Enhancement System traction control
  • Active Yaw Modulation stability control
  • Torque management
  • Power distribution
  • Regenerative braking control
  • Driving mode optimisation
  • Thermal management for the motors and battery

Together, these systems analyse vehicle behaviour in real time, helping the Carmen Sagrera deliver maximum performance while maintaining stability under varying driving conditions.

A major component is the Electronic Torque Stabiliser, which independently applies negative torque to the rear wheels during regenerative braking. Besides improving vehicle stability, the technology also helps recover energy and maximise driving range.

Software processes over 200 million instructions every second

At the heart of Carmen Sagrera’s electronic architecture is software capable of processing more than 200 million instructions per second.

The HSDD platform continuously evaluates numerous parameters, including:

  • Steering angle and steering speed
  • Accelerator pedal position
  • Wheel speed
  • Brake pressure
  • Chassis yaw angle
  • Suspension movement
  • Three-axis acceleration
  • Battery charge, voltage and current
  • Selected driving mode
  • Ambient temperature
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Altitude

Using information gathered from over 100 sensors throughout the vehicle, the software instantly adjusts traction, stability and power delivery to suit changing driving conditions.

According to Hispano Suiza, the system converts analogue and digital signals from multiple sensors into real-time data that allows the car to execute driver inputs with greater precision while maintaining safety and responsiveness.

Extensive testing shaped the final calibration

Hispano Suiza says the HSDD software was refined through extensive simulation work as well as testing on public roads and racing circuits.

Development was led by former Formula 1 driver Luis Pérez-Sala, whose feedback helped engineers create a calibration that offers greater freedom before electronic intervention occurs.

Rather than aggressively correcting vehicle behaviour, the software has been tuned to intervene progressively, allowing drivers to experience the full character of the hypercar without feeling that electronics are controlling the vehicle.

The HSDD technology has been developed exclusively for the Carmen Sagrera, the latest addition to Hispano Suiza’s electric hypercar lineup.

The flagship delivers:

  • 820 kW (1,115 hp) of power
  • 1,160 Nm of torque
  • 0-100 km/h in 2.6 seconds

Hispano Suiza says the software complements the immense performance offered by the electric powertrain by carefully balancing acceleration, traction and stability without reducing driver involvement.

The company believes this approach modernises the traditional “Gentleman Driver” philosophy by combining cutting-edge electronics with an authentic, engaging driving experience.

The Carmen Sagrera joins a growing list of electric performance cars that rely on sophisticated software to complement their powertrains. Similar technologies are also shaping next-generation models such as the Range Rover GT, which recently debuted as the brand’s first all-electric grand tourer.

Juan Fernández, Chief Technical Officer at Hispano Suiza, said the technology has been created to enhance rather than replace the driving experience.

“At Hispano Suiza, we understand technology as a tool to intensify driving pleasure, not to replace it. The Hispano Suiza Driver Dynamics system coordinates every intervention so that it acts only when necessary, in a precise, natural way that is entirely consistent with the character of the vehicle.”

Hispano Suiza has not announced plans to offer the Carmen Sagrera in Australia. However, the new HSDD technology demonstrates the brand’s latest approach to electric hypercar performance and driver-focused dynamics. Hispano Suiza’s latest innovation reflects a broader industry shift towards software-driven performance, a trend also seen in performance EVs such as the Genesis GV60 Magma.

Looking ahead

With the introduction of HSDD, Hispano Suiza is reinforcing its strategy of pairing high-performance electric drivetrains with sophisticated software that remains largely invisible to the driver.

Rather than relying on technology to dominate the driving experience, the company says the Carmen Sagrera uses its electronic systems to quietly enhance precision, confidence and emotional engagement, allowing the driver to remain at the centre of every journey.
