Kia Australia has officially launched the all-new PV5 Cargo, marking the arrival of the brand’s first dedicated battery-electric van in Australia and its entry into the growing electric light commercial vehicle market.
Built on Kia’s dedicated E-GMP.S electric vehicle architecture, the PV5 Cargo has been designed specifically for commercial use rather than being adapted from an internal combustion platform. The new model is aimed at Australian businesses, fleet operators, delivery services, and tradespeople seeking a zero-emissions alternative to traditional diesel vans.
The launch follows the PV5’s recognition as the winner of the 2026 International Van of the Year (IVOTY) award and represents the first model from Kia’s upcoming Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) range to reach Australian showrooms.

Kia PV5 Cargo pricing and availability in Australia

The Kia PV5 Cargo is available in Australia from $55,990 RRP before on-road costs. At launch, the range consists of a single PV5 Cargo S 4DR Long Range variant equipped with a 71.2kWh battery pack and finished exclusively in Clear White exterior paint. The electric van is arriving in Kia dealerships across Australia now.
Dennis Piccoli, Chief Executive Officer of Kia Australia, said the PV5 Cargo plays an important role in the company’s expanding electrification strategy. He noted that businesses are increasingly seeking solutions that can help lower operating costs and emissions while maintaining productivity, flexibility, and practicality.

Up to 416km driving range and fast-charging capability

Powering the PV5 Cargo is a front-mounted electric motor producing 120kW of power and 250Nm of torque, driving the front wheels.
The electric drivetrain is paired with a 71.2kWh high-voltage battery, delivering a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 416 kilometres.
For businesses operating in metropolitan areas such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, the range is designed to comfortably support daily delivery and service routes without frequent charging stops.
The PV5 Cargo supports both AC and DC charging options.
Using a 350kW DC fast charger, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes. With an 11kW AC charger, a full charge from 10 to 100 per cent takes around six and a half hours, making overnight charging practical for many fleet operators and small businesses.
Purpose-built electric platform maximises cargo space

Unlike many electric vans derived from existing combustion-engine vehicles, the PV5 Cargo has been developed on Kia’s dedicated E-GMP.S platform, specifically engineered for commercial EV applications.
This architecture allows Kia to optimise interior packaging, maximise load space, and improve efficiency without the compromises associated with retrofitted platforms.
One of the key benefits is the van’s substantial 4,420-litre cargo capacity, complemented by maximum cargo dimensions of:
- Length: 2,255mm
- Width: 1,565mm
- Height: 1,520mm
The Kia PV5 Cargo also offers a maximum payload of 740kg, positioning it as a practical option for urban deliveries, trade services, mobile businesses, and fleet operations.
Kia has further prioritised usability through a low rear step-in height of just 419mm, helping reduce physical strain during loading and unloading.
Dual sliding side doors and rear barn doors that open up to 180 degrees provide flexible access to the cargo area, particularly in tight urban environments.
Designed for Australian business conditions

The PV5 Cargo measures 4,695mm long, 1,895mm wide, and 1,899mm high, with a 2,995mm wheelbase. A relatively compact 11-metre turning circle has been engineered to improve manoeuvrability in city streets, loading zones, industrial estates, and crowded commercial precincts. Kia Australia has also undertaken local ride and handling tuning to ensure the van is suited to Australian road conditions.
Led by Kia Australia’s Chief Ride and Handling Engineer, Graeme Gambold, the local calibration program focused on balancing comfort in urban driving environments with stability on regional and rural roads.
According to Kia, the tuning process aimed to maintain consistent ride quality and predictable handling regardless of payload or road surface conditions.
Cabin technology focuses on productivity

Inside, the Kia PV5 Cargo has been designed as a mobile workspace for commercial operators.
The cabin features a 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a 12.9-inch central infotainment touchscreen, providing access to vehicle information, navigation, and connectivity functions.
Additional convenience features include:
- Wireless smartphone charging
- Smart key with push-button start
- Shift-by-wire transmission selector
- Multiple storage compartments
- Over-the-air (OTA) software updates
The OTA update capability allows Kia to deliver software improvements remotely, reducing the need for dealership visits and minimising downtime for fleet operators.

Vehicle-to-Load functionality adds workplace flexibility

One of the standout features of the PV5 Cargo is its integrated Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. The system can supply up to 3.6kW of power through onboard outlets, allowing users to operate tools, equipment, and electronic devices directly from the vehicle.
For tradespeople and mobile service operators working at remote job sites, the feature may reduce reliance on standalone generators while providing a convenient portable power source.
Advanced safety technology and Platinum ANCAP rating

Safety seems like a major focus for the new electric van. The Kia PV5 Cargo incorporates a reinforced body structure featuring extensive use of ultra-high-strength steel and a dedicated EV platform designed to manage collision forces effectively.
Its active safety suite includes:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Lane Following Assist
- Highway Driving Assist
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
- Blind-Spot View Monitor
- Surround View Monitor
- Rear-view camera
- Parking distance sensors
Kia says the PV5 Cargo has achieved a Platinum safety grading through ANCAP’s commercial vehicle assessment process, recording an overall performance score of 91 per cent.
Kia expands its electric vehicle range in Australia

The launch of the Kia PV5 Cargo represents a significant step in Kia Australia’s broader electrification plans.
While the brand already offers passenger EVs including the EV5, EV6, and EV9, the PV5 introduces Kia’s first dedicated electric commercial vehicle to Australian buyers.
As businesses across Australia continue exploring ways to reduce fuel costs and emissions, electric vans are becoming an increasingly important segment within the light commercial vehicle market.
With competitive pricing, a substantial driving range, practical cargo capacity, and purpose-built commercial EV architecture, the Kia PV5 Cargo aims to establish itself as a new contender in Australia’s growing electric van sector.
