Key highlights

  • The Scorpio Z8+ is now $43,990 drive-away (down $4000) and the Z8L+ is $45,990 drive-away (down $3000).
  • Both prices apply only to 2025-built stock and run until December 31, 2026.
  • Rivals such as the LDV D90 and Isuzu MU-X start higher, at $46,990 and $49,990 drive-away respectively.

The Mahindra Scorpio was already the cheapest seven-seat diesel SUV you could buy in Australia. As of October 2026, it’s even cheaper. Mahindra Australia has cut the price of the Scorpio Z8+ to $43,990 drive-away, a saving of $4000. The top-spec Z8L+ is down $3000 to $45,990 drive-away. Drive-away pricing includes on-road costs, so those figures are close to what you’d actually pay.

What’s the catch?

The offer only applies to 2025-built stock, and it ends on December 31, 2026. That makes these runout-style cars, so availability will vary by dealer. If you’re interested, call ahead before making the trip. There’s one thing worth checking. Mahindra gave the Scorpio a model year 2026 update that, belatedly, added adaptive cruise control with stop/go, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist. The source information doesn’t say whether the discounted 2025-built cars carry that safety suite. Ask the dealer to confirm exactly what’s fitted to the car you’re looking at.

What do you get for the money?

Both variants share the same drivetrain: a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder making 129kW and 400Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive at this price is a big part of the appeal for buyers who tow, head off the bitumen or just want the extra security on wet roads.

The Z8+ is the one most buyers will look at first. It comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, leatherette seats, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, dual-zone climate control and proximity entry with push-button start.

Stepping up to the Z8L+ adds a six-way power driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger and a 12-speaker Sony sound system. For $2000 more than the Z8+, that’s a decent list of extras if you do a lot of commuting.

How does it compare?

LDV D90 diesel

The Scorpio’s closest rival on price is the LDV D90. Diesel power has just returned to the D90 range, and the entry-level Executive 4WD diesel starts from $46,990 drive-away for ABN holders or $49,700 for private buyers. That offer runs until October 31, 2026. On those numbers, the Z8+ undercuts the D90 by $3000 for ABN buyers and by $5710 for private buyers, and even the Z8L+ is $1000 cheaper than the ABN price.

Isuzu Ute Australia is also advertising model year 2025.5 examples of the MU-X 4×2 LS-M 2.2L for $49,990 drive-away. Note that it’s a two-wheel-drive model, while both Scorpios are four-wheel drive, so it isn’t a like-for-like comparison. It does show how much cheaper the Mahindra has become.

Mahindra is discounting across the range

This isn’t a one-off. Mahindra has been aggressive on pricing lately. A $10,000 price cut has made the XUV700, already Australia’s cheapest seven-seater, even more affordable. A $1500 discount on the XUV 3XO has made it Australia’s cheapest SUV. Both of those deals run until the end of October 2026.

Should you buy one?

For families who need seven seats and want diesel and four-wheel drive without paying $50,000, this is a strong price. The saving over the competition is real, and the equipment list on the Z8+ covers most of what everyday buyers want.

Price isn’t everything, though. Before signing, check the safety equipment on your specific car, and compare ownership costs such as servicing and warranty terms. We haven’t covered those here, and they matter as much as the sticker price over several years of ownership.

If the numbers suit you, the clock is ticking. The Scorpio offer runs until December 31, 2026, but with stock limited to 2025-built cars, the best examples may not last that long.
