MG has launched its all-new MG07 mid-size sedan in China with both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains at the Chengdu Auto Show. The Chinese-owned British brand opened orders for two PHEV and five BEV variants from 108,900 yuan (A$22,620) to 159,900 yuan (A$33,220).
The brand also claims to have launched the sedan with the largest frunk or front storage in a production sedan, which is available in the 07’s BEV variants.
MG first announced the 07 lineup on March 10, and its pre-sales began in July 2026 before it revealed final variant names and retail pricing. Australia has no confirmed launch plans for the MG07 yet.
MG07 EV model
Seven versions and two powertrains for the MG07
MG offers the 07 lineup in seven configurations across two powertrain types: BEV and PHEV, and official guidance pricing in China ranges from 108,900 yuan (A$22,620) to 159,900 yuan (A$33,220). Deliveries of the 650km-range BEV versions will start at the end of August, while the 845km versions will follow in October 2026.
Two EV battery options
The MG07 uses SAIC’s Nebula Modular Scalable Platform, a dedicated skateboard architecture designed for alternative-energy vehicles.
The entry-level setup uses a 67kWh liquid semi-solid-state battery from Qingtao and a front-mounted electric motor producing 176kW, and depending on the version, the motor produces either 300Nm or 350Nm. This setup delivers a CLTC range of 610km to 650km.
The higher-output version uses a larger 91kWh ternary lithium battery from CATL with an 800V electrical architecture and a 235kW electric motor producing 350Nm. The system supports 5C fast charging, and maximum CLTC range reaches 845km.
MG says the two 610km-range versions use Qingtao’s liquid-solid, or semi-solid-state, batteries, similar to those used in the MG 4 Anxin Edition, and all other BEV and PHEV versions use CATL batteries.
The PHEV can travel 1745km
The MG07 PHEV system combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 82kW with a 152kW electric drive motor, and it can travel 245km on electric power alone under the CLTC test cycle.
MG quotes fuel consumption of 2.91L/100km with the battery depleted, and it claims a combined CLTC range of up to 1745km.

Exterior and dimensions: MG claims a huge frunk
The MG07 measures 4886mm long, 1900mm wide, and 1478mm high, with a 2825mm long wheelbase.
The front gets a star-ring through-type light group and distinctive headlights alongside an integrated stamped clamshell bonnet and a 168-litre front trunk, which the brand claims is the largest frunk in a production sedan globally.
The exterior also features semi-hidden door handles, frameless doors, two-tone wheels and yellow brake callipers. At the rear, a through-type taillight connects the design, while a five-stage adjustable electric spoiler adds another functional feature.
Buyers can choose from six exterior colours: Morello Purple, Notting Grey, Oxford Blue, Milia Pink, California Blue, and Salt Lake White.
Interior: LiDAR leads the technology package

The MG07 also uses LiDAR for its driver-assistance technology, which is combined with a solution based on Momenta R7’s enhanced world model and the X7 self-developed large-model dedicated chip.
Inside, the cabin gets a wrap-around cockpit with a full LCD instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, which run on an 8295P cockpit chip alongside MG’s Inspiration OS.
The cabin comes in two interior themes of White Violet and Royal Blue, and more equipment in the all-new mid-size sedan includes:
- Automatically adjustable, heated and ventilated driver’s seat
- Passenger Queen zero-gravity seat
- Electrochromic panoramic sunroof
- Heated and ventilated rear seats
- Multi-function vanity mirror
- 21-speaker audio system
- mCDC active electromagnetic suspension
Is the MG07 coming to Australia?
MG has not confirmed an Australian launch or arrival timing for the MG07. The brand already has an established electric-car presence here, including the MG4 EV, so a flagship EV and PHEV sedan could give MG a direct rival to cars such as the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal. But there is a catch – large sedans face a difficult market in Australia, where buyers have shifted heavily towards SUVs.
Buyers could confuse the all-new MG07 and the older petrol-powered MG, but the 07 is built from scratch on SAIC’s Nebula platform, while the older MG7 uses a different petrol-car architecture.
