BYD is preparing the next-generation Seal 07 sedan for China with up to 718km of WLTP range and a 300kW electric motor, and this announcement comes just 5 to 6 months after the initial model hit the market in March 2026.
The latest Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filing also reveals a new Blade 2.0 LFP battery that supports rapid flash charging. The 5.1-metre sedan will soon enter the Chinese market as a replacement for the current Seal 07.
It is not currently planned for Australia, where BYD already sells the standard Seal electric sedan in the mid-size EV segment.
New Seal 07 grows to 5.1 metres
BYD unveiled the new Seal 07 through China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on August 7, and it sits below the Ocean series flagship Seal 08 and will replace the current Seal 07, which entered the Chinese market in March this year.

That makes the new Seal 07 slightly larger than the standard electric Seal sedan currently sold in Australia.

Two BEV powertrains and up to 718km WLTP range
The entry-level Seal 07 BEV uses a 76.744kWh LFP battery weighing 539kg, and the battery accounts for almost 28% of the vehicle’s kerb weight. It powers a TZ205QYS electric motor producing 245kW.
The long-range Seal 07 BEV gets a more powerful TZ205QYD electric motor producing 300kW. Its battery weighs 618.6kg and accounts for 30% of the car’s kerb weight.

The Seal 07 will also be available with BYD’s DM-i plug-in hybrid system, which uses a BYD472ZQB 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 115kW. The engine works with a TZ210XYC electric motor producing 160kW.
BYD says the Seal 07 DM-i consumes 4.25 litres of fuel per 100km with the battery drained.
According to China EV DataTracker, BYD delivered just 1005 examples of the current Seal 07 in August 2026, which includes both its PHEV and BEV versions. The low sales figure comes as BYD prepares to replace the current model with the new-generation Seal 07.
Australia unlikely to get the new sedan
The Seal 07 EV is exclusive to China for now, and BYD already sells the standard Seal electric sedan in Australia in Premium and Performance grades, alongside the Seal 6 plug-in hybrid sedan.
Because BYD already occupies the mid-size electric sedan segment in Australia with the regular Seal, automotive experts say the larger Seal 07 EV is highly unlikely to reach Australian showrooms anytime soon.
But the BYD Seal 7 sedan has already cleared official Australian Government homologation and approval documents and will launch here as a larger and more powerful sedan than the Seal 6.
