Brand's cheapest 2027 XPeng L03 price and specs revealed

XPeng has opened orders for its new L03 electric SUV in Australia, with prices starting at $41,900 before on-road costs, and it becomes the Chinese brand’s cheapest and most compact Australian model, sitting below the mid-size G6 coupe-SUV and upcoming luxury G9L flagship SUV. 

It also introduces XPeng’s new Kunpeng range-extender ‘hybrid’ or EREV powertrain to Australia alongside fully electric versions. First customer deliveries are expected in November or December 2026, subject to any delays with homologation.

Four versions, three powertrains

The L03 is smaller than the BYD Sealion 7, Zeekr 7X and Tesla Model Y, but slightly larger than the Geely EX5 and BYD Atto 3, which places it within the mid-size SUV category.

The L03 also introduces a coupe-like shape that separates it visually from the rest of the XPeng range. Most versions ride on 18-inch wheels, while the Performance Ultra upgrades to 20-inch wheels.

The Performance Ultra adds a 134kW/171Nm front electric motor to the 183kW rear motor, and it is the only L03 variant fitted with three XPeng Turing processors.

The PowerX EREV variant has a fuel consumption of 1.1L/100km on the full battery, and it jumps to 5.5L/100km on a flat battery. XPeng says Australia and New Zealand are the first batch overseas markets to receive its range-extender technology and that the car has undergone local testing and road-condition adaptation.

Big screens and Google built-in

Every L03 gets a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, an 8.9-inch instrument display and a large 26.8-inch head-up display.

L03 BEV RWD Long Range adds an option for a light grey interior.

The L03 is the first XPeng sold outside China to offer built-in Google Maps, and it also includes access to the Google Play Store for downloading apps.

Arctic White, Midnight Black, and Rock Grey exterior paint are available on all the 2027 L03 variants, while Silver Frost and Phantom Purple are only found in Long Range and Performance grades.

NGP driving technology coming

The Performance Ultra’s three Turing processors are designed to provide enough computing power for XPeng’s planned competitor to Tesla’s semi-autonomous Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised software.

The XPeng NGP, or VLA 2.0 system, is claimed to begin rolling out in Australia from 2027 and will allow the driver to supervise the vehicle while it drives, with the human remaining alert and ready to take control during an emergency if required.

L03 matches key rivals on price

The entry-level L03 RWD Standard Range costs $41,900 before on-road costs, putting it almost level with the $41,990 starting prices of the Geely EX5 and BYD Atto 3 Evo. For the same $41,900, buyers can choose the L03 PowerX range-extender or EREV variant.

The PowerX can travel up to 215km on electric power alone, or up to 1017km when using its fuel reserves. That places it against the base BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid, although the BYD can use its engine to directly drive the wheels.

The L03 BEV Long Range is $910 more expensive than a flagship EX5 and remains below the $51,800 XPeng G6 Standard Range.

Orders for the L03 are now open, ahead of the first Australian customer deliveries expected in November or December 2026.
