Toyota is celebrating 60 years of the Corolla with a unique limited-run model for the North American market called the Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Special Edition.
The special edition will go into production in limited numbers, with 2500 units for the US and 250 for Canada, and Toyota plans to send the cars to dealerships by early 2027. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the 2027 Corolla Hybrid SE starts at US$27,615 before on-road costs.
While Australia misses out on the 60th Anniversary Corolla, the 2027 Toyota GRMN Corolla will arrive here in 2027. The GRMN Corolla will become the most hardcore, track-focused production car ever to carry the Corolla name, and it’s also a limited edition, coming as a two-seat, five-door hot hatch.
Design: 60th Anniversary Corolla takes a different approach
The 2027 Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Special Edition focuses on appearance, interior upgrades and technology rather than extreme performance, and Toyota based it on the existing SE Hybrid sedan. The special edition gets several exclusive touches, including:
- 18-inch machined black alloy wheels
- 60th Anniversary exterior graphics
- 60th Anniversary door-sill plates
- 60th Anniversary floor mats
- Black and red sport fabric seats
- A 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia System
Toyota also removes the usual SE badging and replaces it with “60th Anniversary” decals on the rear doors.
The interior changes remain relatively modest, but the special seats and anniversary details give the sedan a clear visual difference from the standard Corolla.
Hybrid power only
The anniversary sedan uses the Toyota Hybrid System 5 (THS 5) and combines a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with electric assistance to produce 103kW (or 138hp).
Toyota says the regular Corolla Hybrid can return up to:
- Combined cycle: 4.7 L/100 km
- Urban/city driving: 4.4 L/100 km
- Highway/country driving: 5.1 L/100 km
The Special Edition Corolla uses electric motors heavily at low speeds, which makes it more efficient in stop-and-go city traffic than cruising on the highway.

The Corolla has a huge Australian history
Toyota launched the Corolla in 1966, and the model quickly became the best-selling car in automotive history. Australia holds a special place in that story as it became the Corolla’s first export market in 1966. More than 1.5 million Corollas have since found Australian buyers.
The Toyota Corolla also overtook the Volkswagen Beetle in 1997 to claim the all-time sales record.
Toyota has announced the 60th Anniversary Special Edition only for North American markets, and there are no plans to sell the hybrid anniversary sedan locally.
Japan has also received its own 60th-anniversary model: a rugged Corolla Cross Adventure variant, but Toyota Australia has not confirmed that model for this market either.
North America is receiving a minor carry-over version of the current 12th-generation Corolla for its 2027 model year, but Australia is slated to transition to a fully redesigned, next-generation Corolla. Deliveries for the 2027 Toyota Corolla are expected to begin in H1 2027.
The standard, new Corolla range in North America continues with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder producing 126kW and 205Nm.

Think it's a bit rough considering Australian history with the Corolla, I purchased one in 1968 and have owned 2. Very reliable Cars always priced reasonably, still with Toyota drive Camry 2010 has 310 000 plus no trouble, like all Toyota keep them serviced and they will serve you
