If you’re thinking about selling your car, you probably want to know what it is worth before doing anything else. On the Sunshine Coast, regular Bruce Highway or hinterland trips can add kilometres, while years of strong sun and coastal air might show in the paint or trim.
These signs of use can affect the value, but they are not the sole influence on it. Factors like the exact model, service history, past repairs and overall condition are also considered. With Cars24, you can enter the car’s current details and receive an initial online valuation before deciding whether selling now makes sense for you.
That first figure is not the final purchase price, but it helps you decide whether you want to carry on with the process. If you decide to continue, Cars24 inspects the car and checks the relevant records without charging an inspection fee. You then receive the post-inspection amount and decide whether you want to proceed.
Start an initial online car valuation and if the car is kept in another city, head to the Cars24 seller pages for Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. The paperwork and pickup details vary by location.
To begin the process, you enter the requested car details, including the state you reside in and rego or VIN information.
Go through the initial online valuation to decide whether to continue.
If you go ahead, we arrange an inspection or verification. The Cars24 Terms of Sale allow both physical or virtual inspection.
Our team checks the car and its records against the details given. Checks may cover its identity, odometer, wear, repairs, modifications, keys and proof of ownership.
Cars24 gives the relevant post-inspection amount, which may differ from the first figure if the car or its record does not match the description.
If both sides decide to proceed, a Purchase Agreement is prepared that records the Total Purchase Price.
And the final step, required papers are completed, along with any disclosed finance. Funds are sent by bank transfer before the agreed pickup or handover.
Cars24 will confirm the papers needed. A useful starting set is:
proof of identity and proof that you can sell the car
current rego or proof of ownership
all master and spare keys
service books and owner’s manual, if available
accessories included in the sale
bank details and transfer forms
a current lender payout statement and authority if finance remains
You can refer to our guide on paperwork needed to sell a car for more details.
For a normal private sale of a registered light vehicle, you need a current Queensland Safety Certificate before handing over the car. Cars24 is listed as a licensed Queensland motor dealer and you do not need a certificate if you are selling with us.
The rego transfer itself needs to be completed within 14 days. One thing to know upfront: Queensland's online seller transfer service can't be used in this case, since it doesn't cover sales to organisations or sales where a Safety Certificate exemption is claimed.
Take the registration off direct debit before the transfer is lodged. If the plates are personalised or customised, check with TMR on what needs to happen with them first.
And once the sale is done, hang on to the signed Purchase Agreement, Part B of the transfer form, and proof that the transfer was lodged. For the paper-based process, the Queensland registration transfer guide walks through it step by step.
Car buyers on the Sunshine Coast will not look at the car’s age alone. The exact model and variant, current kilometres, condition, service history and recent market information can all affect the quoted amount. With Cars24, the details you provide are used for the initial online valuation. If you continue, the inspection checks those details against the car and its records.
Use the current odometer reading and mention any dents, paint damage, water leaks, warning lights, mechanical faults, accident repairs or modifications. Service books and repair invoices can also help show how the car has been maintained and what work has already been done.
This is why two cars from the same year may receive different amounts. If the inspection finds something that was not included earlier, the post-inspection amount may change. You can also read how dealers value used cars, which explains what else can influence a valuation.

A car can be sold while finance is owing, but you must disclose the details about the loan to the buyer. Ask your lender for a current payout statement, which will reflect how much is needed to close the loan at that time. A PPSR check may show that the lender has a registered interest in the car, but it will not show the current loan balance.
Under the Cars24 Terms of Sale, part or all of the Total Purchase Price may be used to clear the disclosed finance once Cars24 has the payout statement and your authority. The Total Purchase Price is the amount recorded in the signed Purchase Agreement.
If the lender payout is higher than that amount, ask Cars24 and your lender how the difference must be handled before you sign. The Cars24 guide to selling a financed car explains the process in more detail.
If you choose a private listing, it lets you set the asking price on your own, but also makes you responsible for logistics that involve writing the ad, fielding enquiries, arranging inspections and checking that payment has cleared.
A trade-in works differently, since the value you agree on goes towards another vehicle rather than into your account. If you are trying to work out the trade-in value of my car, look at the full changeover cost rather than the trade-in figure on its own, because dealers can shift numbers between the two. A dealer-bidding service sends your car’s details out to a network of buyers and lets them compete for it, while cash for cars Sunshine coast and car-removal businesses tend to focus on older, damaged or non-running cars.
Cars24 works as a direct sale to one buyer by inspecting first, and the sale only goes ahead if both sides agree on price and sign the Purchase Agreement. If you want to consider this against other routes before you sell your car in Sunshine coast, our private-sale and dealer comparison covers the offer amount, time involved, payment method and who handles the transfer paperwork.
