Not to be confused with the Pajero Sport (a smaller 4WD that shares on its name with the bigger Pajero) the last significant update to the Pajero came with the NX model in 2014.
By that time Mitsubishi had done away with the shorter three-door body style and petrol engine option previously available in the Pajero.
It was turbo diesel all the way with seven seats.
Despite its superior on-road manners due to some car-inspired components underneath, the Pajero is still very much a proper four-wheel drive.
There's a dual-range transfer case to allow slow-speed crawling and hill climbing.
Plus the Pajero gets a full-sized spare tyre on the swing-out back door.
The 3.2-litre is vocal but honest and with enough grunt to shift the sizeable wagon.
Crucially, it’s known for reliability and toughness, like the rest of the car.
The Pajero is available in three main trim levels: entry-level GLX, mid-grade GLS and leather-and-all Exceed.
Fighting against fresher competition, Mitsubishi countered with sharp pricing and long equipment lists. The Exceed, for example, comes with real leather, a sunroof and some wood in the steering wheel.
The Pajero can also tow up to 3000kg, which cements its standing as a value-packed adventure machine.
