7 Used Holden Equinox Cars in Australia

Since 1948 Holden had a knack of building cars Australian families loved. Sure, there were hiccups along the way, but from the FJ and HK to the Kingswood and Commodore Aussie families never had a shortage of built-for-purpose vehicles that dealt admirably with often harsh conditions.

Holden Equinox Car Buying Guide

Key to the appeal of the Equinox is space. With SUVs the favoured ride for families, ensuring everyone is content and comfortable is at the forefront, and the Equinox delivers. What the Holden lacks in interior sparkle – there"s no shortage of grey plastics – it makes up for with good headroom and generous rear seat leg space.

Three engines are available in the Equinox. A 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo provides the entry point to the range and drives only the front wheels.

Those wanting all-wheel drive traction stepped up to a 2.0-litre turbo that happens to be one of the more powerful mid-sized SUVs of its era (the 2.0-litre also requires premium unleaded petrol). It’s an engine not lacking in grunt, with the all-paw traction helping make use of it.

Plus, there is a 1.6-litre turbo diesel that worked beautifully for country cruising.

The most affordable Equinox is the LS, which picks up alloy wheels, smart key entry and start, rear parking sensors and connectivity that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

However, that LS misses out on the advanced active safety features fitted to all other models, including the LS+ (the + denoting the addition of the safety pack), LT, LTZ and LTZ-V.

An Equinox LT gets heated front seats, satellite-navigation, rain-sensing wipers, front parking sensors and larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

LTZ models build on that with a powered tailgate, LED lights and larger 19-inch wheels.

The LTZ-V gets the full fruit, including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

The challenge with the Equinox could be finding one. The car was discontinued

along with the Holden brand in 2020.

Warranty and parts for the Equinox are provided by an existing network of Holden-authorised service centres until at least 2030.
